Open Arms Clinic
The Open Arms Clinic in Losirwa Village, Esilalei Ward of Monduli District provides access to essential care for Maasai families who live in a remote region of northern Tanzania. Before the clinic’s construction and establishment in June 2011, women in labor and sick children often walked more than ten kilometers to the nearest dispensary—journeys that risked exhaustion, childbirth complications, and loss of life. Today, trained medical staff provide basic maternal, neonatal, and child healthcare services from a dedicated clinic building centrally located within the community, bringing modern medicine for the first time to this area alongside traditional healing practices.
The clinic reflects values of shared humanity, purpose, and community stewardship between U.S. healthcare professionals, Texas Health Resources, and elders from the region. Through this committed partnership and the generous contributions of supporters around the world, the Open Arms Clinic in Losirwa Village is now a foundation of health and hope for the Maasai people who live there.
